The story of
Patricia Buckley
After more than 30 years of service in Jamaica’s classrooms, Patricia Buckley entered retirement with a new mission: to reimagine how children experience Social Studies. She had seen too many students approach the subject with fear, and too many teachers struggle to make it engaging. Retirement became the moment to act — not to step back, but to step forward as an author.
Her first project was the PEP Social Studies Study Guide for Grade 6, a comprehensive resource designed to take the stress out of exam preparation. With over 200 practice questions, interactive activities, and full mock exams, it gave students the confidence to succeed and gave teachers and parents a trusted tool to guide them.
But Patricia knew that true change had to start earlier. That vision gave birth to The Amazing Social Studies Adventures of Tommy & Turbo, a children’s book series for Grades 2 to 4. Through lively storytelling and interactive activities, the series makes Social Studies digestible, builds national pride, and strengthens literacy skills — helping children fall in love with learning long before exams enter the picture.
Today, Patricia’s mission is clear: to transform Social Studies from a subject to be feared into one to be loved — equipping children with knowledge, confidence, and cultural pride that will last a lifetime, while also giving teachers practical tools and support to make their classrooms come alive.
